Status and costs
You will be registered as a guest or secondary student and will receive a guest or secondary student card. However, you will not be enrolled, i.e. you will not receive student status at the HU, no semester ticket and no student account (see HU account below).
Guest students pay a fee of €15 per weekly semester hour (i.e. €30 per semester for a double-hour course). This also applies to part-time students who are not enrolled at a university in Berlin or Brandenburg.
What do guest or secondary listenership mean?
As a guest student, you take part in courses without being enrolled at a university. Accordingly, you do not have to complete any coursework such as examinations or assignments for a degree programme. If you are already enrolled at another university but would like to attend a course at Humboldt-Universit?t, you can register as a secondary student. In this case, you can also complete coursework as part of the course that will count towards your degree programme. Find out more in paragraphs 55 and 57 of the interdisciplinary statutes governing admission, studies and examinations at Humboldt-Universit?t zu Berlin.
How do you become a guest or secondary listener?
The first step is to select the courses you wish to attend from the course catalogue. This is organised according to the university structure into faculties and their associated institutes, whose names allow conclusions to be drawn about the subjects offered there. In the course catalogue you can find out which courses are offered, where and when they take place, who the responsible lecturer is and whether certain requirements need to be met.
If you need assistance in selecting courses, you can obtain this from the relevant student advisory service.
Participation must be applied for/authorised for each individual course. Please contact the relevant lecturer via the e-mail address given in the course catalogue. The register of persons on the Humboldt-Universit?t website can also be helpful. Please enquire as to whether you can attend as a guest or secondary listener, stating the number and name of the desired course. Please note that you do not have an HU/Agnes account.
Although there is no deadline for the application, it is advisable to contact the lecturers at the beginning of the lecture period of the semester, i.e. in mid-October or mid-April.
If you are permitted to attend, please enter the course(s) in the registration form for guest lectureship or secondary lectureship (see below) and send it together with the participation permit(s) you have received via e-mail to: clearing? Please insert an @ at this point ?hu-berlin? Please insert a period at this pointde with the subject line "Anmeldung zur Gasth?rerschaft" or "Anmeldung zur Nebenh?rerschaft". Signatures are not required on the form. Once your application has been processed, you will receive your guest or secondary auditor card by post. If fees are incurred, you will receive information about the transfer by e-mail beforehand. Your guest or secondary student membership is then valid until the end of the semester.
Students of the Berlin University Alliance (FU, TU, Charit¨¦) can take advantage of the research-oriented courses offered by the Berlin University Alliance (see Course Catalogue > Compulsory Electives) and register as BUA students. Information and application form: hu.berlin/bua.
Please note: If you want to take language courses at the HU Language Centre as an external student, please apply directly to the Language Centre.

Studying without an HU account
Without regular student status at the HU, you do not have an HU account. This means that you cannot use the "Agnes - Lehre und Studium online" platform to register for courses and examinations or to print out transcripts of records. Please contact the respective lecturers or examiners and ask for alternative methods. The lecturers are also the contact persons if "enrolment keys" for Moodle courses are not available or links for dialling into online courses. In principle, access to the Moodle learning platform is also possible without an HU account by providing an e-mail address. To use the university library, you can log in there.
