Electives from other disciplines

The interdisciplinary compulsory elective area (?WP) offers students the opportunity to individually expand their study content. They can choose from various modules that are not directly related to their main subject in order to develop interdisciplinary skills and broaden their perspectives.

Interdisciplinary competences

You can acquire interdisciplinary skills during your degree programme. This usually takes place in the interdisciplinary compulsory elective area (?WP). In this area, courses (modules) are offered in which you can acquire interdisciplinary specialised knowledge. Please refer to your study and examination regulations to find out whether your degree programme includes an ?WP. Please also take a look at the FAQ .

Career Centre: Professional competences

The Career Centre offers specially developed courses with future skills for career orientation and career entry. The courses are worth 1 to 5 credit points (CP) and are not graded.

Berlin University Alliance: cutting-edge research and teaching

The Berlin University Alliance is supported by four institutions: Freie Universit?t Berlin, Humboldt-Universit?t zu Berlin, Technische Universit?t Berlin and Charité - Universit?tsmedizin Berlin. The BUA aims to further strengthen the link between cutting-edge research and teaching and promote the exchange of excellent academics and students.

International: Berlin Perspectives

Berlin Perspectives is an interdisciplinary seminar programme for international programme students and regular students at Humboldt-Universit?t in the ?WP. All seminars take the city of Berlin as their thematic point of reference and look at various aspects of the history, society,
culture and politics of Germany and Europe in the world. They are held in English or in bilingual English-German formats.

Theology

Berlin Institute for Islamic Theology

The Institute offers five modules each for Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes. These include Islam in the past and present, interreligious perspectives and individual specialisation in Islamic theological disciplines.

Faculty of Theology

The Faculty of Theology offers a total of seven modules in the interdisciplinary compulsory elective area. These include courses on the history of Christianity, gender studies, systematic and practical theology.

Central Institute for Catholic Theology

The Central Institute for Catholic Theology offers four modules for Bachelor's students and two modules for Master's students in the interdisciplinary compulsory elective area.

Natural sciences

Studium Oecologicum

To complete the Studium Oecologicum and receive an official certificate, students must complete the Studium Oecologicum I module and the specialisation.

Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences

Within the Faculty, the Institutes of Geography, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics offer modules for Bachelor's and Master's students.

Faculty of Life Sciences

Within the Faculty, the Albrecht Daniel Thaer Institute of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences, the Institute of Biology, the Institute of Psychology and the Mind and Brain Master's Programme offer modules.

Culture & Society

Faculty of Cultural, Social and Educational Sciences

All institutes of the faculty as well as the Centre for Transdisciplinary Gender Studies offer modules as part of the interdisciplinary compulsory elective area.

Faculty of Philosophy

The Faculty's Institutes of Library and Information Science, European Ethnology, Philosophy and History offer modules for Bachelor's and Master's students.

Further offers

Language Centre

The Language Centre offers a wide range of courses, including Latin, Chinese, Turkish, Czech and Arabic. Students can also register for the German as a foreign language course.

Professional School of Education

The Professional School of Education focuses on teacher training and offers two modules on overarching aspects of the teaching profession.

Great Britain Centre

The UK Centre offers two seminars as part of the module: Advanced Seminars in British Studies two seminars with current and cultural references.
