Study & Teaching

The Berlin University Alliance aims to strengthen the link between cutting-edge research and teaching and promote the exchange between academics and students. For the first time, teaching will be supported as part of an excellence programme, which will focus on studies and teaching as a cross-cutting topic.

Study at the best universities in Berlin

Do you want to discover new perspectives, gain research experience and work on your own projects with other students? As a student of the Berlin University Alliance (BUA), you can take advantage of selected courses at all four institutions of the university network.

The following universities are members of the BUA Excellence Network:

  1. Humboldt-Universit?t zu Berlin
  2. Charité - University Medicine Berlin
  3. Free University of Berlin
  4. Berlin University of Technology

Teaching and studying in a network of excellence - we tell you how!

You can find all BUA programmes offered by Humboldt-Universit?t zu Berlin in our course catalogue.

If you would also like to take a look at our partners' programmes, you will find all offers on the Berlin University Alliance website.

Registration

BUA students are all students who are enrolled at one of the partner universities HU, FU, TU or Charité. Would you like to take part in a BUA course? Then register as a BUA student at the HU and benefit from the Berlin Excellence Network:

  1. Access to the research-oriented BUA course programme
  2. No limit on the number of weekly semester hours you can take
  3. Access to the HU's digital services

How does registration work and how long is it valid?

  1. Registration as a BUA student takes place when you register for a BUA course (see below).
  2. The BUA Office for Studies and Teaching will contact you after receiving the registration form.
  3. Registration as a BUA student is valid for one semester.

When is registration not possible?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to register as a BUA student if you are enrolled on a continuing education or postgraduate (certificate) degree programme or as a doctoral student.

Registering for a course

The registration process varies depending on which course you would like to attend. There are exceptions, e.g. for Career Centre events (see below). Please also note the information on enrolment and registration on the respective course pages in the HU course catalogue.

Students of the Humboldt-Universit?t zu Berlin

  1. Select one or more courses of the Berlin University Alliance in the interdisciplinary compulsory elective area from the course catalogue of the Humboldt-Universit?t.
  2. Please check the course page in the course catalogue to find out whether online registration is enabled or whether you should contact the lecturer.

Students of Freie Universit?t Berlin, Technische Universit?t Berlin and Charité - Universit?tsmedizin Berlin

  1. Select one or more courses of the Berlin University Alliance in the interdisciplinary compulsory elective area from the course catalogue of Humboldt-Universit?t.
  2. Participation must be applied for and approved for each individual course. Please contact the responsible lecturer via the e-mail address provided. Please enquire whether you can participate as a BUA student, stating the number and name of the desired course.

Important note: If the course is not a BUA course, you must register as a part-time student.

Students of the Humboldt-Universit?t zu Berlin

BUA courses can be credited in the interdisciplinary compulsory elective area. Participation in a course is considered successful if you have attended at least 75 per cent of the course - subject to further special work to be completed in accordance with the respective module description. A module is deemed to have been completed in full if all components of the module have been successfully completed. If examinations are planned in the interdisciplinary compulsory elective module (?WP), registration for these examinations is usually also possible via the examination tree in the course catalogue (AGNES).

Students of Freie Universit?t Berlin, Technische Universit?t Berlin and Charité - Universit?tsmedizin Berlin

As a BUA student, you can apply to have your work recognised.

For this you need:

  1. The module description
  2. The certificate of successful participation in the course (please complete the missing information). The responsible teacher must confirm the completion of the module by signing the document.

The lecturer can provide you with a module description and course description/curriculum for recognition at your university.

Important note: The credit is not automatically recognised, but only upon application. We recommend that you check with your examination office beforehand.

Confirmation of participation

Please note: The certificate of attendance is issued by the respective course organiser and can then be submitted to the relevant examination office. The BUA Office for Studies and Teaching can provide support in case of queries, but is not the issuing authority. As a rule, communication takes place between participants and lecturers.

If you have any questions, please contact our BUA Office for Studies and Teaching.

We would be delighted if you would like to open your courses to BUA students. Initial information on the general procedure can be found in the handout for lecturers.

In any case, please also contact our BUA Office for Studies and Teaching. We will be happy to support you.
