The apprenticeship is totally varied - no two days are the same. I'm constantly learning new things about colours, machines and materials and can make full use of my technical understanding. What I like best is that at the end of the day I hold a real product in my hands that has been created through my work. It's just a great feeling to see how an idea is transformed step by step into a finished print.
About the profession
What looks simple at first glance involves a complex production process. Print media technologists analyse print jobs for technical feasibility and check whether the print data is complete and usable. They also plan the workflow and prepare data for digital printing processes.
Prerequisites
At least a lower secondary school leaving certificate or equivalent level of education is required for recruitment, as well as a good general education; you should have a sound knowledge of maths and German as well as computer skills. An interest in craftsmanship and technical skills, logical thinking, spatial awareness and a very good sense of colour and faultless colour vision qualify you for the job. A quick grasp of things and a structured way of working are also part of your qualities.
