Electronics technicians specialising in energy and building technology are specialists in electrical energy supply and other electrical systems in buildings.

About the profession

As an electronics technician, you will not only plan and install fuses and connections for household appliances, but also lighting, antenna, lightning protection and broadband communication systems, gate drives, building control systems, data networks or the control and regulation systems of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. To do this, you will create control programmes, define parameters, measure electrical variables and test the systems. Advising and supporting customers is also part of the wide-ranging area of responsibility of the electronics technician.

Prerequisites

At least an intermediate school-leaving certificate (lower secondary level or equivalent level of education) is required for employment. The apprenticeship is also suitable for high school graduates. You should be able to work in a team, have a good grasp of things, a sense of responsibility, diligence, reliability and physical agility. You should also have good IT skills and a sound knowledge of maths, physics and English. Furthermore, perfect colour vision is necessary for the apprenticeship.

Training content

The training programme is run in conjunction with Freie Universit?t Berlin. Electronics technicians specialising in energy and building services engineering receive practical training in areas of the Technical Department of Humboldt-Universit?t in Berlin-Mitte and Berlin-Adlershof. The basic training takes place in the first year of training in the central training workshop of Freie Universit?t.

The following knowledge and skills are taught:

  • Planning and organising work, evaluating work results, quality management
  • Assembly and installation
  • Installing system components and networks
  • Measuring and analysing
  • Testing protective measures
  • Setting up and testing control systems
  • Carrying out services
  • Advising and supporting customers, sales
  • Analysing faults and maintaining devices and systems
  • Designing systems
  • Installing and commissioning energy conversion systems and their control equipment
  • Installing and commissioning devices
  • Installing and configuring building control and telecontrol systems
  • Testing and maintaining technical building systems

Theoretical training takes place at the "Hein Moeller" vocational training centre in Berlin, and inter-company training is carried out once a year at the Berlin Electrical Guild.

Duration of training: 3.5 years

Payment (according to TVA-L BBiG):

  • in the 1st year of training € 1,236.82
  • in the 2nd year of training € 1,290.96
  • in the 3rd year of training € 1,340.61
  • in the 4th year of training € 1,409.51

Training time: 39 hours 24 minutes per week

Holiday: 30 days per year
