The specific teaching content of Islamic theology as a science includes the disciplines of Islamic textual studies (Quran and Hadith), Islamic law, Islamic religious practice, religious education, Islamic philosophy, Kalām and mysticism, Islamic history and contemporary Islam. Another important pillar of the degree programme is language training in Arabic; practical language skills are also taught. The Bachelor's degree programme in Islamic Religious Studies is designed to train religious education teachers for integrated secondary schools and grammar schools in Berlin. The subject aims to impart a broad and integrated knowledge and understanding of the academic foundations of Islamic theology, with particular emphasis on a comparative perspective. In addition, a critical understanding of the most important sources, theories and methods of the subject as well as the ability to deepen knowledge vertically, horizontally and laterally and to work out and further develop problem solutions and arguments in professional application are taught, as well as systemic and communicative competences.

The programme is open to all interested individuals with a university entrance qualification and is therefore explicitly aimed at people of all faiths, regardless of their religious affiliation, who have an interest in Islamic theology.
