Description
Migration is one of the most controversial phenomena of our time. We reverse the
perspective: In a close dialogue between anthropological and philosophical approaches, we
dedicate ourselves to making an inventory of perspectives and proposals that bring migration
into view as a knowledge-generating practice, with the aim of developing an outlook,
relevant to the conditions of our time, for a future based on solidarity. In order to generate
new spaces for research, we combine diagnoses of (a.) new ways of governing populations,
(b.) the challenges of climate change with its effects on human mobility, and (c.) the racist
configurations of the social in a global context. In view of these diagnoses, we are convinced
that the humanities and cultural sciences should contribute to (re-)formulating how social
relationships must be shaped in order to be able to address the contemporary existential
questions facing humanity. To this end, the project deliberately expands the scope of
academic discussions and, in a series of workshops, engages in a dialogue with social and
cultural actors whose organic knowledge and inventive ways of thinking contribute to
exploring new forms of solidaristic cooperation that would be appropriate in terms of the
scope, complexity and temporal and spatial reach of the challenges of our times.
