Description
The Rastrakutas, who ruled over a territory of approximately 450,000 square km in Central and Western India from the middle of the 8th to the end of the 10th centuries, were one of the most influential early medieval Indian dynasties. Contemporary Arab sources reckoned them among the most powerful rulers of those times. Because of the importance of the Rastrakuta empire, a complete edition of their inscriptions, i.e. the most significant sources, has to be regarded as great desideratum. As the more than 300 known Rastrakuta inscriptions constitute a very large and heterogeneous group of sources, the aim of the project consists in editing the 80 Sanskrit copper-plate charters and Sanskrit stone inscriptions of the Rastrakutas into English.
