Questions and answers about the alumni network

Here you will find detailed information on offers and services for Humboldt-Universit?t alumni. If your question is not answered here, please contact the Alumni Office.

Important information about your account

Your user name in the alumni portal consists of: firstname.surname. The user name of the alumni email does not contain a dot: firstnamelastname. The e-mail is: vorname.nachname@alumni.hu-berlin.de (e.g.: alexander.humboldt@alumni.hu-berlin.de). Please only use your user name to log in and not the e-mail address.

No, you do not need to register again. Please simply let us know your new e-mail address, which we will enter for you in the alumni portal. Please provide proof of your identity accordingly. We will then send you an automatically generated password to your new private e-mail address.

To receive an alumni e-mail address, you must register in the alumni portal. When registering in the alumni portal, the last question is whether you would like to receive your own alumni e-mail. Please tick the "Yes" box and submit the registration.
Click here to register in the alumni portal.

Of course, you can also receive an alumni e-mail at a later date. Please send us an e-mail and we will be happy to activate the service for you.

Please ensure that you do not put a full stop between your first name and surname in your alumni email username (e.g. alexander.humboldt@alumni.hu-berlin.de, username: alexanderhumboldt). Your user name in the alumni network, on the other hand, consists of a first and last name with a full stop (e.g. alexander.humboldt).

If you log in with your e-mail address and not your user name, you may be able to see your mailbox but not be able to access your e-mails. To solve this problem, please log in with your user name. This is made up of your first name and your surname and has no punctuation marks (= first name surname, e.g. alexanderhumboldt).

To solve the problem, you should revise the core data in the outgoing mail server and the server settings in Thunderbird. We have compiled a solution and the necessary data for this in the following instructions.

After your de-registration, your student HU e-mail address will expire. Therefore, please make sure that you do not log in to the alumni portal with an HU address. Your student e-mail address and alumni e-mail address are independent of each other. E-mails to your old address will therefore not be automatically forwarded to your alumni account.
