Tasks of the department
The Legal Department is part of the central administration of HU and supports all organisational units of the university, especially its central bodies (e.g. Presidential Board, Academic Senate), the faculties (e.g. appointment and doctoral committees, examination boards, faculty administrations) as well as the other academic institutions, central institutions and departments of the central administration.
The Legal Department works in all areas of law relevant to the HU. It answers questions on the interpretation and application of legal regulations, assists in the drafting of the university's own guidelines and statutes, reviews contracts and provides support in the formulation of notifications and legally relevant letters. It also conducts the university's legal proceedings, for example at the administrative and labour courts.
In some areas, legal issues are dealt with directly by the specialist department, e.g. in construction, rental and procurement matters by the Technical Department, in tax matters by the Budget Department and in third-party funding and doctoral matters by the Research Service Centre.
