Tasks of the authorised representatives
Data protection at Humboldt-Universit?t zu Berlin covers all areas in which personal data (i.e. data that can be traced back to an individual person) is processed at Humboldt-Universit?t zu Berlin. This also includes the administration of data of university members of all status groups (professors, academic and non-academic staff, students, guest lecturers, etc.), data on test participants, suppliers, visitors and other personal data processed at Humboldt-Universit?t.
Any person can contact the Data Protection Officers directly without going through official channels. The Data Protection Officers are obliged to maintain confidentiality when dealing with your request. This means that third parties will only be informed of your request in anonymised form, unless you expressly agree otherwise.
The Data Protection Officer department is organisationally anchored at management level at HU. It is assigned to the Presidential Department of Humboldt-Universit?t as an independent staff unit.
Data Protection Officers are not subject to instructions in data protection matters. This means that they must judge matters freely and solely in accordance with the law. They cannot be instructed as to whether or how they examine or even judge. This professional freedom from instructions is established and safeguarded by law.
Data Protection Officers must be provided with all information necessary to assess the lawfulness of the processing of personal data. They can contact all departments and facilities of the University for this purpose.
Humboldt-Universit?t zu Berlin's Data Protection Officers are also in close contact with the Berlin State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information and other university data protection officers.
