Studying with a disability

Humboldt-Universit?t zu Berlin offers various support services for students with disabilities. The central point of contact is the "Studying with Disabilities" advice centre.

We can advise you on the following topics

  1. Advice and support: Individual advice on study organisation, compensation for disadvantages and financial aid.
  2. Compensation for disadvantages: Support in applying for compensation for disadvantages, such as additional examination time or alternative forms of examination.
  3. Accessibility: Information and support on accessibility on campus and in the buildings.
  4. Technical aids: Access to special technical aids and software that can make studying easier.
  5. Networking and community: Organising contacts to self-help groups and other students with disabilities.
  6. Support for barrier-free programmes in research and teaching

We are guaranteed to be available during these hours. Outside of these hours, we offer many other appointments, including off-site meetings. In urgent cases, you can reach us at barrierefrei.studieren@hu-berlin.de.

Please note that only brief inquiries can be answered by phone. More extensive questions can be discussed in an online consultation. Please contact us to schedule an appointment.

By appointment; usually Wednesday afternoons between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.

All consultation rooms are wheelchair accessible.

  • What: Opportunity to visit two counselling centres in one location ("Studying with a Disability" at Humboldt-Universit?t and "Barrier-free studying counselling centre" of studierendenWERK Berlin, which also provides advice on inclusion support services)
  • When: Once a month, on Wednesdays, specific dates: 
    • Wednesday, January 21, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
    • Wednesday, February 18, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
    • Wednesday, March 18, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
    • Wednesday, April 15, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Important information and applications

Campus & Mobility

Unfortunately, Humboldt-Universit?t is not barrier-free everywhere. However, we are constantly improving our buildings, rooms and central areas.

Disadvantage compensation

Compensation for disadvantages compensates for disadvantages caused by chronic illnesses, disabilities or family responsibilities, for example.

Hardship application

In special cases, prospective students who have not been offered a study place have the opportunity to submit a hardship application.
