What is a "real" change of university?
You would like to continue your degree programme in exactly the same way at another university (with the same type of degree and the same content). Then you must apply regularly and for the higher semester.
For a change of university (identical degree programme) or the resumption of a discontinued degree programme, you must provide proof of academic and examination achievements that allow you to be placed in at least the 2nd semester. It is not possible to reapply for the 1st semester if you were already enrolled in this degree programme at a university in the European Economic Area.
Please check the HU's study programmes first,
- whether your degree programme is offered at the HU, with or without NC,
- whether your subject combination is available,
- whether there are special admission requirements and whether you fulfil them, e.g. for subjects such as sports science or English.
You can then apply within the application or enrolment deadlines apply as follows:
- You register and apply via the application portal, selecting "higher subject semester". You will receive information on the application process and the necessary documents as part of the online application.
- The verification of your transcripts of records, the subject semester classification and, if necessary, the verification of whether it is the same degree programme are carried out at the HU as part of the admission or enrolment procedure. You therefore do not have to do anything before applying.
- The subject semester categorisation as part of the application is not the same as the recognition of your previous achievements. You must apply for the latter later to the examination board of your faculty or institute, which you can do immediately after enrolment.
- If there are no capacity restrictions for your semester (without NC), you are guaranteed a place if you are classified accordingly.
- If there is a capacity limit (NC) for your semester, there is no certainty. Nobody can predict how many places will become available and can be allocated, and how many applicants with which qualifications will apply. If there are more applications than places available, a selection is made. The selection criteria are the grades of the study and examination achievements and, in the event of a tie, social considerations. Average A-level grades and waiting semesters are therefore no longer relevant! In combined degree programmes, you must be admitted for both the core subject and the second subject in order to enrol.
- Are you receiving financial support (BAf?G, scholarship, loan)? Clarify in advance the associated rules for changing universities or resuming your studies.
- You do not have a general higher education entrance qualification? Ask the student service or the initial counselling service for international applicants whether you are allowed to study your degree programme in Berlin.
- If residence law issues could play a role for you, you will find information for questions from our International Affairs Department.
- If you are transferring to another university to study Law: Please consult the information provided by the Faculty of Law.
