Studienkolleg with the Free University of Berlin

The Studienkolleg is a one-year preparatory course for obtaining a university entrance qualification and is organised jointly with Freie Universit?t Berlin.

Specialisations

The Studienkolleg is divided into specialisation courses:

  1. M-course (for medical and biological subjects),
  2. G-course (for humanities and language subjects),
  3. W-course (for economics subjects),
  4. T-course (for technical and natural science subjects, except biology).

The courses take place at the FU.

Application

Application to the joint preparatory college is only possible for the winter semester. The application period is from 1 June to 15 July (cut-off period).

The application procedure is the same as for a degree programme. You enter the desired degree programme when selecting your degree programme on the uni-assist portal.

  1. After submitting your application via uni-assist, if you fulfil all the formal requirements, you will be invited to the aptitude test in Berlin, which usually takes place in August. Admission to the Studienkolleg is only granted on the basis of the result of the aptitude test.
  2. All-day lessons take place on five weekdays in the subjects of a specialisation course suitable for the desired course of study and in German.
  3. Lesson times are based on the school curriculum of the state of Berlin, not on the lecture times of the universities.

Prerequisites

You must fulfil certain requirements to take part in the Studienkolleg.

  1. Your previous formal education is not sufficient for you to start a degree programme directly.
  2. Your previous education must entitle you to participate in the Studienkolleg; information on the recognition of foreign previous education can be found in the anabin database. You can also self-check your higher education entrance qualification on the uni-assist website.
  3. You must provide proof of German language proficiency at level B2 (passed B2 CEFR exam, TestDaF at least level 3 in each subtest, successful participation in C1 course)
  4. For the W course: English language skills at level B1 are required. A lower level could impair the success of the programme, as English lessons in the W course take place at level B 2.

Assessment test (FSP)

The Studienkolleg concludes with the Feststellungsprüfung.

  1. Your previous education qualifies you for admission to a subject-specific degree programme through the one-year course together with the final FSP, which corresponds to the specialisation course of the FSP.
  2. Subject-specific means that you can only study subjects that fall within the subject group of your assessment test (FSP).
  3. Your subject-specific university entrance qualification remains a foreign university entrance qualification.
  4. The assessment test is not a general German higher education entrance qualification.
  5. You are a registered student at the university during this time

External assessment test

It is also possible to take the assessment test at the Studienkolleg externally after self-organised preparation. However, the number of examination places is limited for capacity reasons. If you have any questions about the external FSP, please contact the FU Berlin directly.
