Immerse yourself in the world of algae with virtual reality

The BLOOMS exhibition in the Animal Anatomy Theatre shows algae blooms as an impressive virtual reality installation

Algae make an important contribution to life on earth: they produce oxygen and are part of important natural cycles. However, when certain algae proliferate, this can damage bodies of water. Increased by climate change and human influences, algal blooms are occurring more and more frequently, sometimes with serious consequences. In 2022, for example, they caused a fish kill in the River Oder and a mass die-off of marine animals off Australia in 2025.

With the BLOOMS (algal bloom) exhibition, the Theatre of Veterinary Anatomy (Tieranatomische Theater) is showing an impressively photorealistic virtual reality exhibition until 28 June 2025 that allows visitors to experience the microcosm of algal blooms under the surface of the water up close.
