Anette Eva Fasang becomes a member of the Leopoldina

The Presidium of the Academy has elected the HU professor as a member of the National Academy of Sciences. The sociologist conducts research into the demography and social structure of societies.

Founded in 1652, the Leopoldina has been the National Academy of Sciences in Germany since 2008. As such, it has two tasks: to represent German science abroad and to advise politicians and the public. In December 2025, the Presidium of the Academy appointed Prof. Dr Dr h.c. Anette Eva Fasang as a member of the Leopoldina. Anette Fasang holds the Chair of Microsociology and headed the Institute of Social Sciences at Humboldt-Universit?t zu Berlin from 2023-2025.

Research into the sociology of families and life courses

As a sociologist, Anette Eva Fasang primarily conducts research using quantitative and qualitative methods on questions of demography and the social structure of societies and investigates the sociology of families and life courses. She is a member of the board of the Cluster of Excellence "Contestations of the Liberal Script (SCRIPTS)" and has received numerous prizes and awards for her work. Among other things, she was made a Fellow of the European Academy of Sociology in 2024 and honoured with the Rosabeth Moss Kanter Prize for Excellence in Research on Work and Family in 2023 and 2018.
