Appreciation of migration research by the Wissenschaftsrat

German Centre for Integration and Migration Research is a leading research institution

The Wissenschaftsrat has assessed the German Centre for Integration and Migration Research (DeZIM) for the first time. It recognises the institute's significant research achievements - both in the core areas of integration and migration research as well as in discrimination and racism research. The institute adds important perspectives to these fields of research in Germany, provides impetus for their methodological development and fulfils a valuable networking function. "DeZIM thus fulfils the expectations associated with its foundation in a convincing manner. With its evidence-based research, it makes an indispensable contribution to objectifying social debates on the topic of migration," explained the Chairman of the Wissenschaftsrat, Wolfgang Wick.

DeZIM was founded in 2016 by a resolution of the German Bundestag. The Berlin Institute for Empirical Integration and Migration Research (BIM) at Humboldt-Universit?t zu Berlin was commissioned to establish DeZIM as a non-university research institution.

Aileen Edele and Pauline Endres de Oliveira, the new directors of the BIM since the beginning of the year, are delighted with the latest assessment: "On behalf of the BIM, we would like to congratulate DeZIM on the outstanding evaluation, which recognises both the scientific excellence and the great commitment of the entire team. As the BIM, we look forward to continuing our very successful collaboration with the DeZIM Institute in the future - within the DeZIM research community and beyond. This collaboration strengthens migration and integration research in the long term - which is more important today than ever."
