The 25th Congress of the International Organization for the Study of the Old Testament (IOSOT) will take place at Humboldt-Universit?t zu Berlin from 11 to 15 August 2025. The IOSOT is the most important international organisation for the study of the Old Testament. In its 75-year history, the IOSOT Congress, which takes place every three years, is being held in Germany for the fourth time.

At the invitation of the current president of the society, Prof Dr Dr Bernd U. Schipper from the Faculty of Theology, 480 scholars from 37 countries are coming to Berlin. The almost 400 specialist lectures will cover topics ranging from the archaeology of Jerusalem, Egyptian papyri and the origins of the Old Testament to images of the body in Old Testament literature, questions of interpreting biblical texts in the present day and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for researching ancient manuscripts.

The congress begins with a festive event in the Rotes Rathaus and includes an evening event in the Leibniz Hall of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities.
