Andreas Reckwitz, Professor of General Sociology and Cultural Sociology at Humboldt-Universit?t zu Berlin, is one of the most renowned and publicly visible representatives of German-speaking sociology. The German Sociological Association (DGS) is now honouring him with an award for his outstanding achievements in the field of the public impact of sociology. An honour that is long overdue, according to the DGS publication. Andreas Reckwitz's books, which are also very popular with a non-sociological audience, contribute to the social diagnosis of the times, but also to social self-enlightenment. His interventions in various media have ensured a high level of public visibility.
Andreas Reckwitz was already honoured with the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize of the German Research Foundation in 2019 and most recently for his book "Loss" with the non-fiction prize "The Political Book" 2025 of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
The prize for outstanding achievements in the field of public effectiveness in sociology 2026 will be presented at the opening event of the upcoming DGS Congress on 28 September 2026 at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.
