Project description

For many centuries, Egyptian administration enabled the ruling elite to claim resources that lead to the maintenance of power, but also to producing countless expressions of material culture which are the basic sources for Egyptologists. The study of expressions of this administration during the Early Dynastic Period and the Old Kingdom, therefore, has long been a focus of Egyptological. In many cases the statements of officials are a starting point: the functionaries included titles in their representations which they achieved as members in different branches of administration. In contrast, impressions of cylinder seals as result of the administration's activities have, in the past, been mostly ignored. It is planned to examine sealings from Elephantine, Naqada, Abydos, and Buto in course of the project to fill this gap.
