Characterization of nutrient-dependent RNA methylation dynamics in S. pombe

In this project, the biological function of tRNA cytosine methylation by the tRNA methyltransferase Dnmt2 in the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe will be investigated. The project will encompass whole-transcriptome methylation analysis and ribosome profiling in order to determine how the chemical modification of tRNA and other RNA mioeties regulates translation. This will allow novel, transcriptome-wide insights into the function of an important RNA modification and will generate bioinformatic tools to expand this analysis towards other systems.
