Project description

In this project plasmon excitations in ultrathin silver wires surrounded by conjugated organic molecules are studied. The preparation of the silver wires from solution will be optimized with respect to length and crystallinity. The plasmon resonances will be studied on single isolated wires by means of scanning probe techniques. Field amplification of the metallic wires will be used for ultra sensitive detection of molecular vibration spectra by infrared light.
