Project description

This subproject addresses challenges in the early phases of the workflow life cycle, specifically focusing on the conception of data analysis workflows (DAWs). During this phase, scientists col-laborate to transition from a scientific question to an abstract workflow. Currently, the early work-flow concept is often implicit and only becomes explicit through the implementation of concrete DAWs. Despite proposed abstract workflow representations, dedicated methods and support for the conception phase are lacking. This gap poses a risk to the scientific quality of workflows, as scientists tend to adopt "next best" workflows instead of a systematic design approach. The sub-project aims to understand experts' principles and processes during the workflow conception phase and develop new methods and support techniques for DAW conception based on this un-derstanding.
