Description
The specialised information service Gender Studies (FID Geschlechterforschung/Gender Studies) is tasked with developing information resources which are specifically designed to meet the distinctive academic requirements of the interdisciplinary/transdisciplinary field of gender studies and gender research. The core of gender studies is the examination of the social, cultural and biological aspects of gender, gender relations and the intersections of gender with various societal, regional, historical and scientific contexts. This entails a nuanced understanding of the epistemological and methodological perspectives inherent to different disciplines within the broader field of gender studies.
This field of knowledge encompasses both those who situate themselves in inter-/transdisciplinary gender studies and those who conduct gender studies primarily within a single discipline. Additionally, the service addresses researchers who wish to consider gender and other dimensions of diversity, thereby indicating a need for specialist information and expertise from the field of gender studies. The specialised information service is being developed in close cooperation with the specialist community, the existing FID landscape, and the Digitales Deutsches Frauenarchiv.
The services offered by the FID Geschlechterforschung/Gender Studies include
1) the establishment of an integrated search and reference area for the interdisciplinary field of gender studies, a demand-oriented supply of literature and information, for example by providing research literature and information resources, as well as the optimization of content indexing tools based on gender studies;
2) a research data management service geared towards the specific needs of trans/interdisciplinary gender research, which provides guidance on the use of existing infrastructures for quantitative and qualitative research data and offers advice geared towards the diversity of the field of knowledge; In addition, a concept is being developed to bundle relevant data sets for gender research from the existing data repositories networked in the NFDI;
3) in the area of open access publishing, cross-regional information and advisory services are being developed to support researchers and editors in actively shaping the open access transformation of their journals and book series. The services in the areas of information and literature supply, research data management and open access are
4) brought together on the FID portal, which also provides structured and up-to-date specialist information for networking within gender studies. Together, these services will sustainably improve inter- and transdisciplinary collaboration in gender studies and contribute to the further development of research and publication practices in the direction of open science.
