Description
In this project an innovative economic modeling framework to support policymakers in the water sector is developed. The modeling framework consists of two modular linked economic simulation models: a hydro-economic water sector model (MYWAS) and a water sector-focused general equilibrium model (STAGE_W). The modeling framework will enable holistic and detailed analyses of policies directly or indirectly affecting the water sector. Water supply will be optimized in terms of both economic efficiency and water quality, taking into account water benchmarking criteria. This setup will facilitate the development of coherent policy measures that influence water use directly or indirectly to achieve a more efficient and sustainable management of scarce water resources. The modeling framework will be programmed generically and in a transdisciplinary setup applied to the case of Israel.
