In Germany, women make up the majority (62 per cent) of Ukrainian refugees, and nearly half of them are caring for children. These women bring a high level of education, yet they still face significant barriers to entering the German labour market. Limited access to information and slow, standardised integration processes – particularly for single mothers and other vulnerable groups – continue to hinder their full economic participation.
INTERSECT was carried out in 2024 by two Ukrainian students: Beatriks Rabinovych, an MA student in rehabilitation sciences, and Olha Lushankina, formerly a BA student at the Institute of Social Sciences. The project was supervised by Prof Dr G?k?e Yurdakul and co-authored with Dr Jonna Rock, research associate at DeZIM.
