Centre Marc Bloch

Shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the German and French governments decided to establish a Franco-German research center for social sciences that would also be open to other European countries. Founded on October 9, 1992 and officially opened on September 8, 1994, it was named after the French historian Marc Bloch (1886-1944). The Centre Marc Bloch (CMB) is an institution sponsored by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the French Ministry of Research and Higher Education / Centre National de Recherche Scientifique (CNRS). Since 2001, it has also been co-financed by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Furthermore, since January 2011, the CMB has been closely linked to the Humboldt-Universit?t zu Berlin as an "affiliated institute" through a cooperation agreement.
