Description
The study "How feasible is the implementation of GMO maize in smallholder farming in Kenya?" examines the challenges and opportunities of introducing genetically modified maize into smallholder agriculture. Although the debate on its introduction has been ongoing for over 20 years, it is often overshadowed by political motives and misinformation.
The focus is on assessing to what extent GMO maize fits into the agronomic practices of smallholder farmers, whose needs differ significantly from those of large-scale farms for which these technologies were initially developed. Agronomic, economic, as well as institutional factors influencing adoption and feasibility are considered.
The goal is to identify potential obstacles at an early stage and develop approaches to address them, ensuring that smallholder farmers are well-prepared in the event of a GMO maize introduction in Kenya.
